The Auburn Basketball Centre Expansion Project included the construction of a new dedicated training and development high-performance facility within the historical heritage precinct of Wyatt Park between Haslams Creek storm water canal and The Auburn PCYC, with Lidcombe Oval to the south and the current Auburn basketball stadium to the north. It will be primarily used for training purposes by the Sydney Kings, Sydney Flames Basketball teams and the Hoops Capital Academy.

The assessment was considered necessary due to the proximity to Haslams Creek (now channelised and the fact that visually the land looks to be open space which has undergone minimal disturbance. However, through historical research including a review of historical aerial photography and site inspection the NPHC team was able to demonstrate that the land has undergone significant modification including reclamation from swamp.

The site has been completely modified from the original pre-European landscape and therefore the potential for intact Aboriginal cultural heritage is low. Historic aerial photography and mapping was used to show the changes in the site over 100 years
