'Roads to Home' empowers Aboriginal communities to make decisions about construction of powerlines, roads and other infrastructure on Aboriginal-owned land. The Three Ways is a Griffith LALC owned housing subdivision. The project involved infrastructure upgrade works including (new roads, footpaths, street lightning, drainage and subdivision of some vacant blocks for future building.

We undertook an AHIMS search, documentary research, and historical aerial imagery search to identify and previous assessments and to understand historical land use and its impacts on the project area. We consulted with the local community and completed a walkover of the project area with them. We delivered an Aboriginal and historic heritage assessment report to enable the project to proceed to local council approval. One challenge we rose to, was to deliver a remote project economically within the community's budget.

Griffith Local Aboriginal Land Council's 'Roads to Home' Project
We acknowledge Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their many diverse communities across our nation and their rich culture. We pay respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia’s first peoples and as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land and water across the Australian landscape and seascape. We recognise and value the ongoing contribution of Aboriginal people to Australian life and how their contribution continues to enrich our society.
