  • Aboriginal community consultation

Our client was working administering this project for the Indigenous property owners.  Throughout this project we were in consultation with the local Arrarnta owners located at the township of Ntaria adjacent to the site. Finke River Mission and key heritage stakeholders.

The project included the gathering of relevant information through a review of planning documents and historical research; development of a contextual history of the heritage place; articulation of the statement of significance; the identification of relevant interpretative themes; and recommendations for implementation. The plan the interpretation media to concept stage.

Our project team focused on facilitating the future implementation and so the plan was very detailed including:

  • the agreed colour palette and iconography;
  • the design to concept stage of the proposed content management website, which was mobile phone and tablet enabled;
  • development of community approved content i.e. narratives prepared in short formats designed for easy incorporation into the website and over 400 selected photographs sourced from historical archives and approved by the Arrarnta community for use in the interpretation;
  • purchase of selected high-resolution images where available for large format signage; identification of key gaps in the story to be filled by oral histories;
  • script for a short orientation welcome video with subtitles in German, Italian and French;
  • design specification for signs including arrival sign, lectern signs in front of each building, tearoom balcony sign and pillar sign with interpretive content and wayfinding;
  • text, images and design template for multi-panel sign in tannery building and the welcome sign at precinct gate, the latter translated into English and German text;
  • English text and content design for a brochure and translations into French, German and Italian.

This level of detail and the fully costed implementation plan set this project apart.

The project extended to include the development of a new website for the site constructed by our partner Art of Multimedia and for which NOHC supplied all the content.
