The objective of this project was to make available recordings of the local indigenous motifs and styles without revealing site locations or increasing site-visitation and impacts. Copies were provided to all associated Local Aboriginal Land councils, as well as the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies and the Australian National University (project funders). The art recordings were made using an analogue, interpretive process involving visual tracing of montages of colour transparencies guided by field observations and sketches. All recordings are produced and keyed in black and white, allowing for low-cost photocopy reproduction. Site locations are protected by applied Aboriginal names which are keyed to a list within a restricted-access volume.
