Worimi LALC built the Murrook Cultural Centre to replace their former facilities which already catered to 18-20,000 visitors each year. The new centre was designed to include a permanent exhibition space, temporary exhibition space, meeting and function rooms. Worimi LALC was keen to have the flexibility to refresh the content, programs and other collaborative projects with local and visiting Indigenous artists.
NOHC were part of the team that helped deliver this exciting project. We worked with Art of Multimedia providing historical and archival research to inform some of their creative interpretive works. Although you don't see or hear us, we also developed the oral history questions and conducted the interviews of Aboriginal elders that are one of the informative resources you can access at the centre. Talking to the community Elders and the emerging generation of community leaders was a wonderful experience and it is always satisfying to help Indigenous people tell their story in their own voice.
This project provides an example of the wonderful outcomes that can be achieved through teamwork with our specialist partners and through active partnerships with Aboriginal communities.
