Engaging visitors and future generations in the appreciation of people, their past and the objects and places that bear witness to them.
Interpreting cultural heritage places, values and archaeological evidence to the public can be immensely satisfying but at the same time challenging. Interpretation done well can be transformative, building understanding and respect between different sectors of our community and enabling visitors to a site to gain insights into contemporary people and our historic past.
While our objectives for each Interpretation project are tailored to that project over all they have four characteristics in common. They all serve to:
- Present a deeper meaning than could otherwise be understood,
- Enhance the experiential appreciation of the site, object or place,
- Resonate with the visitor and situate them as a participant in the experience rather than an observer, and
- Foster community stewardship of heritage places.
Working with our clients and communities we adopt value-based approaches to heritage interpretation projects. These may be projects within protected conservation areas or integrated into development projects for clients with a sustainable development perspective who see the value in including a heritage legacy as part of their project.
